Overview

While the Bachelor’s study program in Architecture imparts basic knowledge of all architecture-related topics, students of the Master’s study program in Architecture have the choice to engage themselves in advanced studies of the basis of architectural work, planning and design, and to concentrate on technical priorities, based on personal preference, interests and qualification.

For that purpose, students can choose from four key topics: The core practice “Architectural Design” and three activities grouped into three focus areas “Integrated Building Technologies”, “Urban and Landscape Transformation” and “Cultural Heritage, History and Criticism”.

The term papers of the Master’s study program in Architecture essentially consist of three components: an individual project term paper (the central focus of the study program), the accompanying self-study, which is assigned to the contents of the individual project term paper as well as study and research choices of the faculty. Priority in all fields of specialization is given to the project term paper, which is complemented and deepened by the other components.

In consultation and cooperation with the professor of the chair, students draw up a mentoring program which further promotes the study objective. A focus on sub-disciplines can lead to a subject-specific orientation and various job profiles.

Students should acquire the necessary qualification, not only to initiate and realize planning processes, but also in order to be able to undertake management tasks in a team and to implement building projects with economic and business success.

Applicants are expected to show a high level of dedication and commitment. In order to determine an applicant’s individual skills, an aptitude test is conducted as part of the admission procedure. The academic degree Master of Arts (M.A.) entitles to a Ph.D. program.
