COURSE OVERVIEW
A taught postgraduate course that conducts research into how global cultural and economic forces influence contemporary cities. TEACHING AND LEARNING
Through this course you will begin to engage directly with a chosen research subject area, gather data and formulate an original approach in your practice. You will synthesise your project culminating in the production of a leading-edge proposition until you present and contextualise your thesis. This internationally based course actively disseminates students thesis work through conferences, exhibitions, competitions and publication.
This course can be considered as partially meeting the requirements for recognition at Part 2 level (RIBA/ARB) through APEL provisions applied to individual graduates. The course is jointly accredited with The University of Manchester.

MA Architecture and Urbanism allows you to study, and conduct in-depth research into, the influence of global cultural and economic forces on contemporary cities.

In certain circumstances, this course can be approved as prior learning for our Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 2-accredited MArch Architecture.

You are encouraged to submit a digital portfolio with your application. This should be in the format of a PDF document with no more than 20 pages.
SUGGESTED PORTFOLIO CONTENTS
The submission of a portfolio of work with your application demonstrates your ability to edit your work into the most appropriate and succinct expression of your abilities and ambitions. Portfolios should be rigorously laid out and should employ an appropriately sized and legible font for graphical clarity and ease of comprehension. Work should be presented and ordered in a clear and logical fashion, and should include:
-A cover page bearing your name and an image that graphically and succinctly ‘sells’ your interests, ambitions or capabilities (this should be different to the project images contained within the portfolio, but may be derived from them).
-A table of contents with information regarding the duration of projects and the undergraduate academic year / level in which it was completed.
-A short introductory statement to you and your practice at the front of the portfolio (this can be an extract from the 4,000 character statement in your application).
-Three pieces of work, with one project or piece of coursework shown in detail. This should include a short written summary demonstrating the significance of each piece of work (100 words for each), and must demonstrate the rigour of the discipline from which you come.
Additional work: your portfolio can include examples of work undertaken in an employment context from a practical training period or similar experience.

TYPICAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will normally have at least an upper second class undergraduate UK honours degree (or international equivalent) in a related field. Alternatively, you may be admitted if you have proven experience in a relevant field.
Students are required to provide a portfolio (digital or hard copy) as part of the application process.
Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification.
