Attending Spaces: Movement Performances as Activators in the Architectural Process

Abstract
How can performance use specific situations and places to focus an architectural designer’s emphasis on attentional practice? And what happens if we regard architectural design as a process rather than an end goal? Rooted in Elin’s work as an architect and performance maker, which enacts the ways the built environment grows beyond the control of the designer, her practice-based research aims to advance the relationship between site-specific movement performances and the architectural design process. Elin explores this by using task-making as a choreographic method and using props as scenographic tools. This research aims to investigate how a multifaceted architectural design will evolve from an ability to respond with open and sensitive interactions to the surrounding environment.
