Julio Salcedo-Fernandez is the Director of the Urban Design Program and former Chair The Spitzer School of Architecture at City College, NY. As Chair, Salcedo has led a major change of curriculum, successfully led the school through an NAAB accreditation, introduced new faculty and protocols to the department, and revised its communication and publications strategies. Prof. Salcedo has taught at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Cornell University, Syracuse University and University of Pennsylvania. Prof. Salcedo is also a principal with Scalar Architecture. Prof. Salcedo has previously been acting director of the Master of Architecture Program, Director of the Study Abroad, Director of Professional Studies and has served on all the school’s committees. With over 18 years of experience of academic and professional experience, Prof. Salcedo continues to teach, research and practice. Prof. Salcedo is currently developing institutional projects – a transit oriented development-, landscape/master plan projects, and residential projects. Prior to funding Scalar Architecture, Prof. Salcedo worked for some of the most recognized firms in the field such as SOM, the sustainability leader Cook and Fox and Pritzker Prize winner Rafael Moneo. Mr. Salcedo is a registered architect in the EU and the US and has won major design awards such as the Architectural League Prize and the Europan Prize. Additionally, Prof. Salcedo is widely published globally.
