Cristián Izquierdo Lehmann

Cristián Izquierdo Lehmann is an architect graduated summa cum laude from the Universidad Católica de Chile in 2009. In 2014 he completed with honors a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design at Columbia University. Since 2010 he works as an independent architect in projects of different sizes and programs, public and private. In 2012 he becomes a partner of Izquierdo Lehmann architects.

 

His work has been exhibited at the MoMA and CFI in NY, at the Ljubljana City of Design in Slovenia, and GA Gallery, Tokyo, among others; has been published in books and magazines around the globe, including Casabella, Detail and GA Houses, among others; and awarded House of the Year (2017, Lujubiana), Design Vanguard 2020 by Architectural Record Magazine and AOA Medal to the Outstanding Young Architect (2021). He has lectured in universities in Chile, USA, and Japan. He is Professor of the Practice at Universidad Católica de Chile, where he teaches design and theory.

 

Awards:

2008:   Academic Excellence Award. Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

2008:   Best Diploma Project. Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

2010:    House for the Pilgrims, Templo Votivo de Maipú. First prize. Associated to Luis Izquierdo and Antonia Lehmann.

2013:   Beca Chile scholarship, for studying a MsAAD at Universidad de Columbia.

2014:   Honor Award for Excellence in Design. Columbia University, New York.

2014:   Lucille Smyser Lowenfish Memorial Prize. Columbia University, New York.

2016:    “House in Futrono” chosen as one of 100 most important works of Chile, by Archdaily.

2016:    “House in Morrillos”, Premio Mayor, to the best “Minimum Work” of the year, Universidad Mayor, December 2016.

2017:    House in Morrillos chosen “House of the year” at the exhibition “Houses of the world”, City of design, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2017.

2017:   House in Morrillos finalist at the AR House awards.

2018:    House in Morrillos nominated to the MCHAP y MCHAP.emerge to the best American work finished between 2016 y 2018.

2020:    House in Matanzas, finalist of Archdaily’s ODA award, nominated by popular vote.

2020:    Design Vanguard, given to the 10 best emergent architects of the year, by Architectural Record.

2021:    AOA Medal to the Outstanding Young Architect. Biannual award given by the Chilean Association of Architectural Offices.
