It is our pleasure to announce that the BAM Ranking 2021 has been released, thanks to the collaboration of the different Universities that participated in this year’s study and the effort of our highly qualified Committee of Experts, formed by 15 international academic architects from some of the best universities around the world.

BAM Ranking’s purpose is to evaluate different postgraduate programs offered by the best schools of architecture around the world in order to determine which of them are the most relevant in terms of academic quality, internationalization, and alumni opportunities.

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, designated Copenhagen as the World Capital of Architecture for 2023, by recommendation of the International Union of Architects (UIA).

On the theme of «Sustainable Futures – Leave No One Behind», Copenhagen will host a series of events and programmes in which the municipality, working together with the Danish Association of Architects and other native professionals, will analyze how architecture and urban planning contribute to meeting the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

For this edition of our Ranking of International Master’s in Architecture, we have gathered a prestigious team of professionals that will have the task of evaluating international Masters and refining our methodology in order to have an objective and transparent study.

Ghanaian-British architect and Adjaye Associates founder, Sir David Adjaye OBE received the 2021 Royal Gold Medal on May 26th. An award that is approved personally by the Queen of England and given to people who have had a significant impact on the development of architecture.

Brazilian architect, Paulo Mendes da Rocha has been announced as winner of the 2021 UIA Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement .

The Jury resolved to recognize Mendes da Rocha’s «unique status as a daring iconoclast whose work has taken architecture to new heights of technical virtuosity», and referring to his conviction that all spaces should be understood as public, the jury said that his «UIA Gold Medal exemplifies a lifetime of achievement spanning seven decades that emphasized architecture as a public act», as stated on the International Union of Architects (UIA) website.

Spanish architect, Rafael Moneo will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, which will take place on May 22nd, 2021.

Hashim Sarkis, Curator of the 2021 Biennale di Architettura, recommended Moneo as deserving of the award, stating that: «The Golden Lion for lifetime achievement is only befitting for the architect who took part in the Giudecca housing project of 1983, who won the competition for a new Cinema Palace at the Lido di Venezia in 1991, and who has drawn many a lesson for architecture from Venice».

The founder of Berlin-based firm Kéré Architecture, Diébédo Francis Kéré (Burkina Faso, 1965) has received in the past days the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello in conjunction with the University of Virginia (UVA) awarded the internationally renowned Burkinabè architect with its 2021 Architecture Medal; merit previously received by Mies van der Rohe, Kenzo Tange, Frank O. Gehry, Zaha Hadid, and Sir David Adjaye OBE, amongst others.

The founding partners and directors of Lacaton & Vassal, with offices in Paris, France, are the winners of the 2021 Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Architects Anne Lacaton (Pardoux la Riviére – France, 1955) and Jean-Philippe Vassal (Casablanca – Morocco, 1954) established Lacaton & Vassal in 1987, seven years after they graduated from the School of Architecture of Bordeaux.

The 2021 edition of the QS World University Rankings has been released. The Quacquarelli Symonds Ranking is perhaps the most significant rankings of Universities around the world. In 2021 their ranking by subject evaluated a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas: Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences & Management. The discipline of Architecture is part of the field Arts & Humanities.

The 2020 edition of the prestigious QS Ranking has been released. The QS, or Quacquarelli Symonds Ranking, is one of the most significant (if not the most) rankings of Universities around the world.

For this year, the podium of the subject «Architecture & Built Environment» is dominated by the same 5 than other editions, which are also considered the best Universities for Architecture worldwide by experts and students. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recovered the first place, followed by TU Delft in the second place. UCL of London is in the third position, while ETH of Zurich is fourth. The top 5 is closed by the renowned Harvard GSD.
